Submissions

The Rutgers Law Record accepts submissions from legal professors, practitioners and students. Our goal is to provide timely legal analysis of recent developments in our society and serve as a forum for debate on ongoing legal issues. Generally speaking, there are three different types of works that we publish.

Feature Articles

First, the Rutgers Law Record publishes issues on featured topics. These topics are determined by the staff of the Law Record at the beginning of each year. Articles on these topics should be between 15 and 30 single-spaced pages and include footnotes. For more information on the current feature issues please contact the Law Record at lawrecord@lawrecord.com 5 4 3 2 1.

Current Events and Developments

Additionally, the Rutgers Law Record publishes two types of shorter articles on recent developments within our society. It is our hope that these articles will be a reaction to the events and spur dialogue amongst legal scholars on the issues that these events raise. For example, following the catastrophic oil spill in the summer of 2010, the Law Record sought articles that reacted to the legal ramifications of the incident. Similarly, after the TSA adopted new pat-down procedures at airport security checkpoints, the Law Record solicited reaction to the new procedures from legal professors, practitioners and students. We believe that these types of events can and should be analyzed and discussed by legal scholars at every level and that it can be done in a timely and efficient manner.

Toward that end, the Rutgers Law Record accepts individual articles on any topic that is related to an ongoing debate or a current event. Generally speaking, these articles should be between 5 and 15 single-spaced pages and include footnotes, but may be as long as is necessary to cover the topic. Additionally, the Rutgers Law Record accepts shorter “blog” entries that consider a legal issue that was raised by a recent event. These articles should be between 1 and 10 single-spaced pages and must include support for any assertions that are made. For more information on submission guidelines or to propose a possible topic, please contact the Law Record at lawrecord@lawrecord.com 5 4 3 2 1.

Supreme Court Decisions and Ethics

The Rutgers Law Record will, at all times, review any submission in any format if it is related to a recent opinion by the United States Supreme Court. Similarly, the Rutgers Law Record will, at all times, review any submission in any format if it is related to legal ethics or professional responsibility.

Responses and Reactions

The Rutgers Law Record also accepts and welcomes responses to any of the material that we publish. Any response should be supported in the same way that the initial article was supported and will be subjected to the same review and editing process as any other article. For more information or to propose a reaction piece, please contact the Rutgers Law Record at lawrecord@lawrecord.com 5 4 3 2 1.

Review Process

Upon the receipt of a submission, the Rutgers Law Record will review the submission and a determination of whether to publish the piece will be made by the editorial board. Each piece will be reviewed by a member of the editorial board and will not be rejected unless without being reviewed by at least three members of the editorial board. The individual members will review the article for clarity, grammar, citation form, citation strength. and the strength of the argument. For more information, please contact the Rutgers Law Record at lawrecord@lawrecord.com 5 4 3 2 1.

The Rutgers Law Record Blog

The Rutgers Law Record Blog was established to provide a forum for legal debate on recent legal developments and legal issues that have been raised by current events. Our goal is to use the internet to provide timely and thoughtful analysis of legal issues in our society. We also believe that meaningful discussion, analysis and commentary can occur in shorter pieces as well as longer articles.

This forum may be used to create a new dialogue about a developing issue or to further an ongoing debate. Furthermore, entries in the Rutgers Law Record Blog may include reactions or responses to other Blog entries or any of the content of the Rutgers Law Record.

The Rutgers Law Record accepts submissions from law professors, practitioners and students. Entries should be between 1 and 10 single-spaced pages. While these entries do not need extensive citation, any assertion must be supported by a reliable source in the form of a footnote. A submission will be reviewed by the editorial board of the Rutgers Law Record and will not be rejected until it has been reviewed by at least three members of the editorial board. The individual members will review the article for clarity, grammar, citation form, citation strength. and the strength of the argument.
